WHO WE ARE
Who We Are
We are a group of people seeking to follow in the steps of Jesus together.
Who is a Christian?
Christianity is relational. It is God relating to us in love through his only son, Jesus, and us relating to God in love by accepting what he has done for us through Jesus. This relationship is lived out daily. A Christian demonstrates this relationship in three ways:
- Loves God
- Loves Others
- Serves the World
Three Values of Our Foundation
The first identifiable step is that we begin to live a life that demonstrates that we love God. Mark 12:30 says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your mind and with all your strength.” As a congregation we primarily express this by meeting weekly for our Celebration of Worship.
Because God loved us, and God is love, His desire is for us to take the second step in this process – love others. 1 John 4:11-12 says, “Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” This is best seen at Greenwood Christian Church through our Growth Groups that gather together weekly for up to 12 weeks to study the Bible & pray, play, reach out, and serve together. Growth Groups live out loving one another.
Serve the World
The natural byproduct of these two steps is to serve the world. Luke 4:18-19 says, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
We serve the world as a church by ministering to the needs of those around us – our families, our neighborhoods, our friends, the people who we know, as well as people around the world in need of love. Locally we do this through partnering with a transitional housing unit for families in Shoreline, as well as taking advantage of other opportunities to partner with our local community. Globally we do this by journeying with the village of San Jose, Nicaragua in partnership with Agros International. We accomplish this in both cases by coming alongside the people of these “villages” to be a visible demonstration of God’s love to them.
The above process has probably raised a few questions in your mind. Our pastors would be happy to answer your questions. Please contact the office at (206) 783-5510 if you would like to talk with a pastor.
Being a “member” of a church is similar to being a member of a family. We all desire to be part of a family that, despite differences, sticks together, supports one another, and loves one another. This is what Greenwood Christian Church strives to be – a family.
We invite you to be a part of it.
